The ViPrimePLUS Streptococcus agalactiae qPCR Kit is a Taqman probe-based real-time PCR assay for the detection of Streptococcus agalactiae genomes in clinical swab samples (e.g. vaginal swab, urine and serum) and veterinary products such as milk.
Streptococcus agalactiae is a beta-hemolytic bacterium that belongs to group B streptococci (GBS). In veterinary, it is the main cause of mastitis in dairy cattle, resulting in the drop in milk yield and quality. It is also a human pathogen where it colonizes the urinary and gastrointestinal tract of healthy individuals as well as the vaginal area of women. Therefore, this leads to a high risk of neonatal infection transmitted from the infected mothers during pregnancy or delivery. In neonates, 1-2% of them will develop invasive group B streptococcal diseases, such as pneumonia, bacteremia and meningitis. There are increasing cases of invasive infection reported in *****s particularly those with underlying medical conditions and elderly. Clinical manifestation of the disease is linked to the site of infections, such as cirrhosis, cardiovascular, genitourinary, renal and neurological deficits. Therefore early detection enables early treatment and cure.
